In an internal memo sent to his employees at Asda’a BCW, Sunil John announced his departure from the region’s leading integrated PR and communications agency.  The memo read, “It has been a privilege for me to lead the MENA region over the last two decades, first as the founder and CEO of ASDA’A, an independent agency from 2000 to 2008, and for the last 15 years, after WPP’s acquisition of our company, as the President of MENA of ASDA’A BCW.”

He will continue his term as President across MENA until the end of this year and officially bid adieu to the 24-year-old journey at Asda’a BCW in March 2024.

Scott Wilson will be taking over the role of CEO for Asda’a BCW’s operations across Europe Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). “I have always believed that change is good, and I have no doubt the merger of the two regions will bring out the best in us and the BCW global network to benefit each one of you, the organization, and our enviable client portfolio,” further read John’s internal memo.

John played a pivotal role in driving the communications consultancy’s growth in the region. He’s the face of the name of the first-of-its-kind and the most popular whitepaper in the region – Arab Youth Survey. One which he claims is his “passion project and a proud badge he will wear.”

At the recent launch event of the 15th Arab Youth Survey, John said, “With the highest levels of youth unemployment in the world, it is important for the MENA region to channel the energies of these young men and women into vocational training and quality education for the jobs of the future. While a digital-savvy youth population is an asset for any nation, their mental well-being must be given top priority by encouraging them to live a fuller social life in the real world.”

John was among the firsts in the region and in the industry to empower family-owned businesses in the region, building impactful communications campaigns to support their expansion. He has also led strategy for significant projects in the region including the launch strategy for Burj Khalifa, Dubai Expo2020, the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi, and the upcoming COP28 that is to be hosted in Dubai.

In his memo titled – ‘A Time for Change,’ John wished all his employees well signing off.  “I am sure all of you will continue to deliver outstanding work for our clients and delight them. I want to thank you for being part of Asda'a BCW's journey with me, and I wish you the very best in your future career with the company. Don’t forget to have fun working with your colleagues to deliver impactful campaigns for our clients. For, life must be lived with joy and a sense of achievement.”
